A Pakistani artist, Makhdoom Arfeen Hashmi, is poised to represent the country on an esteemed international platform, as his contemporary artwork has been chosen to be showcased at the Anima Mundi Art Fair in Venice, Italy.
Scheduled from April to June this year, the art fair is a global exhibition encompassing photography, painting, video art, installation/sculpture, and performance art.
Arfeen, originally from Rahim Yar Khan, holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore and currently works as a visual artist.
Excited about his selection for the Anima Mundi Art Fair, Arfeen expressed pride in being the sole Pakistani artist chosen for the event, scheduled to commence in May and run for a month.
Reflecting on his passion for art since childhood, Arfeen highlighted his focus on contemporary rather than traditional art. His artwork delves into themes of background and agriculture, addressing issues such as environmental degradation, global warming, and the complexities of the modern world.
Arfeen emphasized the significance of this year's event, coinciding with the 60th Venice Biennale of Art, a major cultural event in Europe. He sees this as a tremendous opportunity to showcase Pakistani contemporary art on a global stage, attracting collectors and art enthusiasts worldwide.
